Well I knew that.  But do you mean “green”, are they used interchangeably?  how can someone have a company based on that one terminology <- That was me unfamiliar to the world of “sustainability” until I started working at the company based in San Francisco called ‘Sustainable Brands‘ (initially Sustainable Life Media)

First things first: the confusion between the terms green and sustainability.

Green is a broad and vague term that describes products that are more environmentally preferable.Green encompasses items that are biodegradable, recyclable, made from recycled content, made from renewable resources. When I think “green” I think of something that has a reduced/lower environmental impact. In some way it means reducing waste, energy or water usage.

Sustainable products reduce the impact on the environment by using responsibly-sourced products. Sustainability doesn’t look at products services or business in isolation; it examines the whole process as an interconnected and interdependent whole. Sustainability refers to actions and products created without jeopardizing the actions and products of future generations.

Green and Sustainability are very similar concepts, they both relate to reducing our impact on the environment; however, green typically refers to the environmental attributes an item or action has while sustainability encompasses a broader notion of mindfulness of the things we do today that affect the generations of tomorrow.

Green is a subset of sustainability, sustainability is the big picture.
